Jesus’ Journey: Finding Success in Canada’s Workforce

Jesus’ journey in Canada began with the challenge of finding meaningful employment. Seeking guidance, he turned to ISSofBC and was introduced to the dedicated staff who would play a crucial role in his job search.

Through the Gateway to Tourism program, Jesus received invaluable support in identifying job opportunities that aligned with his skills and ambitions. The team worked closely with him, assisting with his applications and leveraging their connections with various employers. Thanks to the strong network that the Gateway staff maintains, a Talent Acquisition Manager connected with ISSofBC’s Employer Relations Specialist (ERS), which led to an interview opportunity for Jesus.

Although initially overqualified for an entry-level role, Jesus didn’t give up. He remained committed to transferring his skills to potential opportunities, continuing his training with the support of the Gateway team. Recognizing his dedication and potential, the team partnered with a company to offer him a position that would allow him to further develop his skills while gaining valuable work experience.

This proactive approach opened more doors for Jesus. He was invited to interview for a Front Agent position and had another interview with a different manager. Additionally, the ERS arranged an informational interview with the Talent Acquisition Director, further strengthening Jesus’ prospects.

Through perseverance and the unwavering support of the ISSofBC team, Jesus eventually secured a position that matched his skills and potential. His story underscores the importance of advocacy, tailored support, and resilience in helping newcomers successfully integrate into the Canadian workforce.
