B-Hired offers free job search and skills training for young newcomers (ages 16-29) in BC, focusing on in-demand jobs and career success.

Program description

B-Hired is a free job search and skills training program for young newcomers (16 – 29 years old) who want to start their careers in British Columbia (BC). This online program focuses on ‘in-demand’ jobs. You’ll build confidence, improve your networking skills, connect with employers, and work towards job success.

Course summary:

  • Job search workshops; 
  • Skills specific/occupational skills training leading to certificates;
  • Job search support/work experience;
  • Career counselling and coaching;
  • Follow-up support.

Workshop topics:

  • Labour market information;
  • Career goal setting;
  • Problem-solving;
  • Professional communication;
  • Resume and cover letter development;
  • Job retention tips and much more!

You can join if you:

  • Are between 16 and 29 years old
  • Are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Live in British Columbia: Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond, Surrey, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and Squamish; 
  • Are unemployed or precariously* employed
  • Are not receiving similar financial support from another provincial or government labour market program
  • Have intermediate to advanced English skills (minimum Canadian Language Benchmark 5+).

* “Precariously employed” refers to individuals who are not unemployed but work in unstable or unsustainable conditions, such as irregular hours, unreliable pay, or earnings that don’t support basic needs. It also includes those in low-paying jobs, at risk of job loss due to automation, working below their skill level without advancement prospects, or those with just cause for leaving their job.

The program is online, and to join B-Hired, you must live in one of the following areas in British Columbia: Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond, Surrey, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, or Squamish.
