ISSofBC’s Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP)
RAP is funded by the Government of Canada – Immigrant, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to provide support for Government Assisted Refugees (GARs).
RAP has two main components: income support and assistance for a range of immediate essential services. Immediate and essential services are delivered by ISSofBC in the Metro Vancouver region, generally within the first four to six weeks of a GAR’s arrival in Canada. Activities include the following:
- meeting GARs at the airport or at their destination in Canada
- providing temporary accommodation
- providing basic orientation to Canada, life skills training, and financial guidance
- assisting in finding permanent housing
- referring to other settlement programs.
Please note, it is not possible to resettle in Canada as a government-assisted refugee (GAR). Instead, referral organizations like the UNHCR help us reach the people who need resettlement.
To be considered by a referral organization, you must register for refugee status with the UNHCR or state authorities. Learn more here: Government-Assisted Refugees program – Canada.ca
