ISSofBC’s Global Talent Loans: Facilitating Career Success for Newcomers in Canada

A client of ISSofBC’s Global Talent Loans (GTL) program arrived in Canada as a new immigrant, grateful for the warmth from border officials and the kindness of strangers from various organizations. However, despite initial efforts to enter the job market, the client was met with silence and uncertainty, with no clear rejections.

After settling in British Columbia with the help of friends, the client found work. However, the job proved unsuitable despite the client’s PhD qualifications, leading to an early departure. During this challenging time, ISSofBC’s Global Talent Loans program provided vital support.

When the client’s interaction with ISSofBC started, the case manager Lin Meng offered critical support – taking time to understand the client’s situation and providing resources to help explore opportunities in their field. Later, Yasmin Khan, another case manager, helped the client secure loans for certification and professional development courses. This enabled the client to advance in their career, leading to promotions.
Reflecting on their journey, the client said, “The professionalism, empathy, and competence of ISSofBC and its staff have been key to my progress. Their support helped me build a meaningful career in Canada. If you’re thinking about working with ISSofBC, don’t hesitate. They could be your one-stop solution, and with commitment, the results will follow.”
This story highlights the impact of education and support from ISSofBC. It shows how, with the right guidance and determination, newcomers can overcome uncertainty and achieve career success in Canada.
