ISSofBC’s new Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Settlement and LINC program kicks in Tuesday, April 1 replacing the provincial government programming the organization has been running for the last number of years.
“I am very pleased with how strong our [CIC] programs are in breadth and depth. Our settlement services will continue to provide a variety of clients support services in all current locations. And our LINC program is strengthening the role of assessment portfolios, e-portfolios and online learning, as well as introducing new curricula,” said ISSofBC CEO Patricia Woroch.
ISSofBC`s Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program replaces English Language Services for Adults (ELSA). One unique feature of ISSofBC’s LINC program is a complete online class offered in the Sea-to-Sky corridor, opening up ESL learning for immigrants from the Sunshine Coast to Pemberton.
One of the by-products of the shift to the new CIC model is refugee claimants, naturalized Canadian citizens and temporary foreign workers will not be eligible for federal funding. Fortunately for clients who have benefited from ISSofBC programs in the past, the BC Provincial Government will pick up funding for these clients for settlement services in all locations.
Under the CIC model, ISSofBC staff will continue to offer vital settlement, language and employment programming and services to assist immigrants and refugees in their new lives in Canada.
