Multi-cultural Youth Circle (MY Circle)

Designed for newcomer youth to connect with other young newcomers and develop new skills, this program offers special support so you can make friends, learn about Canada, and explore British Columbia (BC)!

What is the MY Circle program?

This program aims to empower you and other young newcomers so you can build a supportive network for your life in British Columbia.

The program includes short courses and workshops in your first language if you’re learning English.

We also organize fun field trips so you can learn about new activities around British Columbia with other newcomers. 

How can you join?

  • Contact the MY Circle team via email to start the registration process: MYCircleVan@issbc.org 
  • Once you complete registration, you can start attending workshops and field trips!

How this program can support you:

This program can offer you many benefits in your personal life. These include:

Flexible training and skill workshops

Participate in half-day or full-day workshops on stress management and leadership skills, available in your first language if you have limited English proficiency.

Group field trips

Visit national parks in British Columbia, join walking tours to learn about Indigenous history and culture, and explore museums and popular sites across Metro Vancouver.

Improve your communication and leadership skills

You’ll gain confidence in English, public speaking, and facilitating group discussions, all valuable skills for the Canadian job market!

Support and learn from other young newcomers

Learn from other newcomers who have similar experiences to you. Connect and discuss challenges like racism, family conflict, isolation, and discrimination in a welcoming environment.

Stress management support

Join the MY Circle program to discuss the stress and challenges you face while settling into British Columbia in a welcoming setting.

Become a community leader

Use the skills you develop to inspire and encourage other newcomers.

Make friends

Find people with similar experiences, interests, and challenges. Together, you can discover all that BC can offer!

Who can join MY Circle?

This program is only for young newcomers. To be eligible to join you must be aged between 14 and 24, live in Metro Vancouver, and hold one of these statuses in Canada:

Additional eligibility requirements:

  • A Protected Person as defined in S.95 of the IRPA
  • A Permanent Resident
  • Individuals who have been selected to become permanent residents and who have been informed by a letter from IRCC
  • Live-in Caregiver
  • Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW)
  • Provincial nominee who is still awaiting a letter of approval for permanent residency from IRCC
  • Naturalized Canadian Citizen

Languages Available

The MY Circle youth program provides services primarily in English. 

However, if you need support in your first language, please contact MYCircleVan@issbc.org to request a translator and learn what languages we can help you.
