“Partnering with the Vancouver School Board is a great opportunity to support our community and help individuals explore careers within the education sector. By providing clear information about job opportunities, qualifications, and training options, we are supporting people in making informed decisions and starting successful careers in a field that values diversity and growth.” – Abdullah Hashim, Employer Relations Specialist, Job Quest program
We are committed to creating meaningful employment opportunities for newcomers living in British Columbia (BC), and our new partnership with the Vancouver School Board (VSB) is a prime example of this commitment.
This partnership aims to provide clear, accessible pathways for our Job Quest clients—whether they are newcomers seeking their first job in Canada or professionals transitioning into the education field. As part of this partnership, we will host multiple events with VSB in the coming months, ensuring ongoing support and engagement for newcomers looking for job opportunities.
If you would like to benefit from these opportunities, please contact the Job Quest program to learn more!
Empowering clients with industry knowledge
At a recent partnership event, VSB staff provided an overview of the available roles within the VSB, such as Education Assistants, Supervision Aides, Custodians, and Food Service Workers. Attendees received detailed insights into job responsibilities, salaries, benefits, and necessary qualifications, helping them make informed career decisions.
The event also included information on training programs, such as the Burnaby EA Diploma and BSW Certificate, to assist those looking to upskill for these positions and participants learned how they could advance from on-call roles to permanent positions and take on greater responsibilities over time.
Understanding job security, work hours, and benefits such as pensions and health insurance were particularly valuable for clients navigating a new job market.
Like all our events, there were great opportunities to network, and attendees were able to speak with several VSB representatives and industry professionals after the event. These conversations allowed job seekers to gain firsthand advice on the hiring process and workplace culture, increasing their confidence as they pursue employment in the education sector.
Our commitment to diversity and inclusion
Our partnership with the VSB reflects a shared commitment to fostering a diverse workforce. By creating an inclusive space where newcomers and immigrants can explore career opportunities, this partnership ensures that individuals from all backgrounds feel supported and empowered in their professional journey.
This partnership is more than just a series of events — it’s a stepping stone for newcomers and career changers to build stable, fulfilling careers in a vital sector.
With ISSofBC and VSB working together, the future looks bright for those seeking opportunities in the education sector in BC.
