Vancouver Rise FC will compete in the Northern Super League and made its historic debut in April 2025 at BC Place, in front of more than 16,000 fans.

The newcomer connection – Gustavo Lin

As with so many organizations and companies in British Columbia and across Canada, the Vancouver Rise wouldn’t be the success it is today without talented and motivated newcomer employees, working to build their lives in Canada.

Gustavo Lin is the perfect example of the incredible potential that all newcomers have.

Gustavo now works at the Vancouver Rise FC, but was born in Argentina to Taiwanese parents and raised in Peru.

He arrived in Canada in 2009 as an international student. From the classrooms of Langara College to a full-time role in professional sports, he’s worked incredibly hard (at one point holding four jobs to cover costs), sacrificed, and overcome every challenge.

“Immigrating to a new country is never easy… but it is deeply rewarding.”

– Gustavo Lin

During his time as a student at Langara, UBC, and Trinity Western University, Gustavo discovered the opportunities available in the sports industry.

He eventually graduated with a degree in Human Kinetics, with a Minor in Sports Management, which gave him the skills and confidence to start his career in sports management.

“I hope that this country continues to welcome and empower new generations of immigrants – each bringing their own stories, strengths, and dreams.

– Gustavo Lin

But that’s not all!

Gustavo is also an entrepreneur, operating a small business that specialises in making alpaca dog sweaters, blending his Latin American heritage with the opportunities available in Canada.

“My parents took bold steps, leaving Taiwan to build a better future first in Argentina, then Peru. Their sacrifices paved the way for my sister and me. Now, I look forward to the next chapter of my life as I prepare to welcome my son this September — a first-generation Canadian with Taiwanese, Argentinean, and Peruvian heritage.”

Join us in celebrating that vision, on and off the pitch.
