Solid Start 360 Employment

A free employment program that supports newcomers and refugees in overcoming unique barriers they face in their job search journey through individual and group sessions.

Solid Start 360—Employment Program supports participants in building confidence, developing job readiness skills, and taking a strong step into the Canadian workforce.

Program includes

  • 1:1 job search coaching and group workshops (in-person/online/self-paced)
  • Opportunities to connect directly with employers through job fairs and mentoring events
  • Job postings and referrals to employer partners
  • Assistance to understand and succeed in the local labour market
  • Support in adapting to local workplace culture and norms

Benefits

Individual career counselling

Understand how your skills fit into the local job market. Explore your goals and prepare a career plan and get support on your resume, cover letter and improve your interview skills.

Workshops

Attend a series of workshops in-person, remotely, or through self-paced online courses.

Job finding club

Attend staff-led sessions offered in-person or remotely. Build confidence, foster peer support, and ask employment-related questions.

Mentoring events

Gain understanding of a career through occupation-specific mentorship.

Networking and hiring fairs

Connect with employers and gain confidence by applying to the available jobs.

Additional job search support

Referrals to other employment and training programs. Connections to volunteer or employment opportunities. Follow-up support to help you succeed in your job search and keep your job.

Can I join?

Permanent Residents and Individuals selected to become Permanent Residents, and who have been informed by a letter from IRCC.
Protected Persons, as defined in S.95 of Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Learn more here.

You can join if you are:

• A newcomer selected to become a Permanent Resident (with a letter from IRCC), or
• A Protected Person under Canadian law, as defined in S.95 of Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Learn more here.

Yes, the program is in English. However, if you need help in another language, email employment360@issbc.org to ask about language support.

Solid Start 360-Employment Program gives you:

1:1 coaching, group workshops, and opportunities to connect directly with employers through referrals, job fairs, and mentoring events. Get assistance from our team to improve your resume, cover letter, and interview skills.
Access to online and self-paced courses can be provided.

Depending on your needs and location, you can join online or in person.

Solid Start 360-Employment program is offered in Vancouver, New Westminster, Coquitlam/Tri-Cities, and Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows.

The program is completely free for eligible participants.

Languages Available

Solid Start 360 services are primarily provided in English, but you can contact employment360@issbc.org to request a translator if you require support in other languages.
