Jack Wong describes his volunteer work with ISSofBC as “an honour” because of ISSofBC’s work providing support and services to individuals and families “who seek the same goals and hopes as my grandparents and parents did.”
“As a third-generation Canadian, I want to give back to the community that has provided my grandparents and parents the opportunity to find a better life and provide the next generations the opportunity to achieve success and well-being,” says Jack, who recently took over as president of the ISSofBC board of directors from Jim Tallman.
Jack’s increased role in ISSofBC’s volunteer board where he has served since 2015, fits in well with his upcoming retirement in spring as chief executive officer of the Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia (REFBC). But the calendar is not likely to free up visibly for this active volunteer.
In addition to ISSofBC, Jack also serves on the boards of Brightside Community Homes Foundation, and the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation for Community Revitalization. He is currently also chair of the Social Innovation Working Group at UBC Farm, Co-Chair of Thompson Rivers University’s Limitless Capital Campaign and sits on the advisory councils for the School of Community and Regional Planning at UBC, and the Faculty of Environment at SFU.
Regarding his new role at ISSofBC, Jack describes being “excited to work alongside a committed board and talented staff.” “It is my privilege to support the passion that the board and staff have for the mission of ISSofBC.”
A certified member and Fellow of the Society of Management Accountants of Canada, Jack holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Business Administration degree from UBC. He has two grown daughters with wife Alanna. “I consider myself an avid traveler and reader of non-fiction,” he says, adding, “I plan to do more of this during my upcoming retirement!”
