Over 40 participants from a variety of professional backgrounds including engineering, accounting, IT, law, and education participated in the first ISSofBC Skills Connect for Immigrants information session partnered with the Tri-city Iranian Cultural Society (TCICS).
The event, held at the Coquitlam City Centre Library January 12, focused on providing an overview of the range of services offered through Skills Connect for Immigrants–a program helping skilled immigrants move into jobs that build on their pre-arrival skills and education.
“It was a very successful event partnering with TCICS. Participants were particularly motivated watching our success stories video as they didn’t know a lot about our program,” said Mary Tecson, ISSofBC Skills Connect Assistant Manager.
TCICS’ community connections in the Tri-Cities area helped fill the information session seats with the majority of immigrant participants originally from Iran looking to further develop their careers in Canada.
Mary also presented on other employment and career services offered by ISSofBC, including Employer Solutions, a hiring initiative that aims to connect employers with ISSofBC clients.
She said her team is excited for the opportunity to reach out to more ethnic communities to promote Skills Connect.
