Skills Connect clients gain insights about career options in evening event

ISSofBC Skills Connect clients gained valuable insights about their career options and foreign credential recognition process for accounting professionals during an evening event partnered with Vancity, MOSAIC, Douglas College, Training Innovations, and Back in Motion.

Approximately 30 participants from the accounting profession attended the event, June 26 at Vancity. Participants spent the evening networking, sharing experiences, and asking questions about the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) designation and Vancity’s hiring process.

Jas Randhawa, CPA, CGA and Manager of Recruitment and Employment for the Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia was the featured speaker at the event. Randawa spoke to participants about the newly established CPA designation – the career prospects, foreign credential recognition process, as well as the various programs available to earn the CPA designation.

Vancity’s Diversity in Action Team and HR personnel also presented on the mission, values and community impact of Vancity. Speakers included Shayne Sankar – Talent Consultant, People Solutions at Vancity, Mustafa Shibary – Financial Service Representative, Bill Wu – Senior Database Admin, Beth Soriano – MSC Agent, and Anthonia Ogundele – Manager, Business Carbon Management. Each speaker elaborated on their respective roles within Vancity, shared their experiences of working in the organization as well as the values, skills and knowledge each of their positions require.

Sankar ended the evening by speaking to clients about the various positions Vancity is currently hiring for and gave helpful tips to clients about what he looks for in candidates.
