ISSofBC volunteers run water station for thirsty athletes

ewebIMG_4490Athletes running in the BMO Vancouver Marathon May 1 were well hydrated during the 42.2 kilometre race thanks to a dedicated group of ISSofBC volunteers.

25 volunteers from ISSofBC including 3 teachers provided water and Ultima sports drink to the thirsty 3,873 full marathon participants.

“Everything ran super smoothly and we had a blast,” said ISSofBC LINC Instructor Andrea Szakos.

This was ISSofBC’s third year participating. Several students were returning volunteers from last year, but for most it was their first volunteer experience in Canada.

The race route started at Queen Elizabeth Park before heading through Pacific Spirit Park, around UBC, then through the West side before looping Stanley Park and finishing in Coal Harbour.

The ISSofBC water station was located at West 29th and Imperial right beside Pacific Spirit Regional Park.
