Tis the season to give thanks especially to our amazing ISSofBC volunteers.

From November to December, ISSofBC Volunteer Connections staff from across Metro Vancouver hosted numerous parties to honour the dedication and support from our over 1000 active volunteers.

“ISSofBC volunteers have contributed a total of 29,452 hours to the community this past year which is equivalent to 16 full-time staff. All of you have taken the time to participate and contribute, and we are here to thank you for your commitment,” said Thea-Lynne Fiddick, Manager of ISSofBC’s Settlement and Integration Program to a crowded room of volunteers at Vancouver’s Creekside Community Centre Saturday, December 6.

The Vancouver evening event included ice-breaker activities, vocal and drum performances and speeches from current volunteers who have dedicated hundreds of hours to a variety of ISSofBC programs.

Longtime volunteer Nargis Wardak, who fled her home in Afghanistan to begin a new life in Canada, reflected on her experience with ISSofBC.

“I left Afghanistan to find safety in a newer country, and I faced the challenge of coming to a new place, learning a new language, experiencing a new culture and meeting new people. Volunteering with ISSofBC gave me the chance to connect with the community and the organization, and make many new friends in Vancouver.” Nargis said.

ISSofBC CEO Patricia Woroch also celebrated the dedication of the organization’s volunteers during the Burnaby/New Westminster appreciation event at the newly opened New Westminster office at Royal City Centre Thursday, December 11.

“We are truly grateful for the positive contribution that all of you bring to ISSofBC. Volunteers add value to ISSofBC programs and services, and on behalf of all of ISSofBC I would like to say thank you for your commitment and hard work,” she said during the event.

ISSofBC Maple Ridge, Tri-Cities, Langley, and Richmond also hosted volunteer appreciation events this holiday season.

ISSofBC provides an array of volunteer opportunities in numerous programs.
