Cycling connects newcomers to community

14 newcomer participants with an interest in building confidence, learning about their community and making friends through weekly bike rides were matched with cyclist mentors Saturday, July 7 for round two of the ISSofBC and Hub Cycling Newcomer Bike Host program.

The first of its kind in Western Canada, the program matches recent immigrants and refugees with local volunteers for companionship and cultural orientation to Vancouver’s active transportation lifestyle.

Participants in the program, originally from Syria, Iraq, Iran, China, Japan and India, arrived to Canada less than a year ago.

What a great way to explore the city and make new friends!

The Newcomer Bike Host program runs until September 30.
