Questions?

Please check the answers to our most frequently asked questions. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our team!

You can volunteer at ISSofBC if you:

  • are a Canadian citizen or newcomer (including immigrants or refugees)
  • can commit at least three months
  • live in BC
  • complete a criminal record check
  • attend an orientation.

We work with vulnerable populations so you need a criminal record check. A “vulnerable population” is a group of people who are at greater risk of facing challenges like health problems, poverty, or lack of support.

You’ll gain experience, build connections, receive a reference, make friends, and join free workshops.

We need our volunteers to commit to volunteering with us for at least three hours per month.
We normally ask our volunteers to commit to volunteering with us for at least three months. We feel this minimum time commitment provides the most benefits to the volunteer and the ISSofBC team they support.
However, if you cannot make that much of a commitment, please speak with your local Volunteer Coordinator, as they may be able to find alternative opportunities.

No experience is required; you’ll receive an orientation and training.

You can apply by checking current volunteer opportunities on our website – Volunteer | Immigrant Services Society of BC (ISSofBC)

Yes, you will receive training.
