Enjoying the outdoors with BC Parks!

One of the best things about British Columbia is its stunning natural beauty! This is why we were so excited to work with BC Parks for a special ‘Learn to Be in Nature’ event in early June that aimed to introduce newcomers to BC’s great outdoors and how to stay safe while out in nature.

Over 200 newcomers joined the event on Cypress Mountain from newcomer agencies across Metro Vancouver.

Thirty-five ISSofBC clients and their families from Squamish, Coquitlam, New Westminster, and Surrey joined the event, which included workshops and events organized by BC Parks staff on topics such as outdoor safety, BC wildlife, and various fun ways to enjoy nature.

BC Parks did a fantastic job of accommodating the needs of newcomers from not only ISSofBC, but also other settlement organisations in BC. They arranged translators for the special events and nature walk, so that everyone felt included and could learn together. They also provided a wide range of food options to accommodate everyone and took care of everyone there.

A big thank you to BC Parks, and we hope we can attend the next ‘Learn to Be In Nature’ event!
