The Director of Finance reports to the VP Finance and leads various functions relating to financial planning, budgeting, treasury, business intelligence, risk, and investments. The position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the finance team to manage the preparation and reporting required for various business decisions, contract negotiations, and meeting various short-term and long-term goals of the company.

The Director of Finance also provides ongoing recommendations and training for improvements in the financial policies and procedures of the company and participates in various internal and external presentations with key stakeholders.

Technical excellence, superb communication skills, collegiality and a proactive orientation are key requirements for this position.

Job Responsibilities

Manage and maintain finance department responsibilities and efficiencies around financial planning, budgeting, treasury, business intelligence, risk, and investments
Work with the finance team and various business unit stakeholders to develop and monitor quarterly, annual, and long-term financial forecasts for use with internal management, Board of Directors, and external parties including public reporting
Manage short-term and long-term treasury management strategy including review of day-to-day cash management, foreign exchange hedging strategy, and cash flow analysis
Work with the finance team and various business unit stakeholders to assess, analyze and develop business efficiencies and new opportunities through analysis of industry trend data and preparation of various financial models
Assess and manage the financial risk of business operations, investments, and innovations
Assist in the evaluation and pursuit of strategic partnerships, acquisitions, or other investment opportunities that help accelerate the growth of the business
Assist in agreement negotiations, due diligence, execution, and post-acquisition integration
Manage the finance team including coaching and developing employees and teams for a more effective skill-set and work environment
Assist with ad-hoc projects and analyses as directed by general management

Job Requirements

A bachelors’ degree in commerce or related degree in finance, plus a professional finance or accounting designation (CFA, CPA, CA) with 7+ years of progressive, hands-on experience (3+ years in a managing role) in private and public companies
MBA or other relevant master’s degree is an asset
Exposure to venture capital, consulting, investment banking, IPOs, and corporate development is an asset
Media, technology, and broadcast industry knowledge is an asset
Expert knowledge of financial modeling techniques and best practices, along with extremely well-developed analytical ability and modeling experience
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel and operational knowledge of MS Office (Word and PowerPoint) and data asset management software
Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Strong organizational and planning skills with meticulous attention to detail
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, fluid, high-growth, and collaborative environment
Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines
Strong initiative and demonstrated track record as an outstanding problem-solver and strategic thinker
