The City of Coquitlam welcomed new residents this week during an open house thanks in part to your friendly neighbourhood ISSofBC volunteers.

The open house event, Tuesday at Coquitlam City Hall, gave new residents information about city programs, services, volunteer opportunities and local government job information. In addition, new residents could find out about their responsibilities as homeowners or residents and meet council members including Mayor Richard Stewart.

“It was great hearing feedback from the participants how they loved and enjoyed volunteering,” said Elsie Decena, ISSofBC Volunteer Connections Facilitator in Coquitlam.

Close to 20 ISSofBC volunteers from ELSA, Volunteer Connections and staff helped out during the event greeting people at the welcome desk and providing event information.

“The City of Coquitlam event staff and the mayor continued saying thank you until I left. We had the biggest number of volunteer representatives there,” she said.

Ewa Karczewska, Manager of the ISSofBC ELSA program in Coquitlam, would like to thank settlement staff for helping prior to the event with promotion to clients and community groups.

“It was great to see all our departments working together and helping our clients to have a positive experience at the event. Very well done!” She said.

This was the third Welcome to Coquitlam Open House to take place at city hall.
