Volunteers contribute over 900 hours to newcomer tax clinics

Over 500 newcomers filed their Canadian income taxes on time this year in Vancouver and Richmond alone thanks to the support of ISSofBC’s Volunteer Connections team.

Close to 40 volunteers contributed more than 900 hours in helping ISSofBC clients during 17 tax clinics held March and April at ISSofBC in Vancouver and Richmond. In addition, ISSofBC New Westminster/Burnaby, Tri-Cities, Langley and Maple Ridge hosted similar clinics and staff are currently compiling the numbers of clients helped.

“Thank you to everyone who had a hand in making the process run smoothly and for offering their support in such a stressful time for many newcomers and first-time tax filers,” said Elmir Ismayilov, Volunteer Connections Facilitator in Vancouver.

Volunteer Connections also hosted numerous thank you celebrations this month to coincide with National Volunteer Week (April 12-18), highlighting the dedication to the tax clinics in addition to the many programs, services and events supported by ISSofBC’s over 1000 active volunteers.

Staff can now learn the ins and outs of utilizing volunteers in an ISSofBC training video inspired by the popular reality television series the Amazing Race.
