The Welcome House is a unique facility in BC which provides temporary accommodation for Government Assisted Refugees (GARs) arriving in BC.  The Resettlement Assistance Program provides GAR clients orientation and information on programs and services available to aid in the adjustment to life in Canada.

Reaching For Success – Newcomer Children in the Tri-Cities_D2G8352

ISSofBC is engaged in multi-year afterschool program for newcomer students in elementary schools in Coquitlam. This program is offered four days a week. Our purpose is to provide access to quality, structured activities and opportunities, within Tri-Cities school settings targeted to meet the needs of multi-barriered immigrant and refugee children (ages 6 -12).

Coquitlam Summer Program for Newcomer Learners_D2G8131

This is a summer program for the most recently arrived newcomer children and teens (age 12+). It assists with positive adaptation and settlement in Coquitlam. The program provides tutoring in English vocabulary, reading, writing skills, and math skills preparatory to school entry in September. We also work with these newcomer learners through field trips, neighborhood exploration, skill building, and social and recreational opportunities to connect them with resources “close to home
