LINC showcases strengths in teaching and online blended programming

Two teams from ISSofBC’s Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada program (LINC) presented online across the country during REALize! – a national online forum for English language educators on January 23.

The LINC Instructional Coordinator Team consisting of Lisa Herrera, Claire Pinkett, Frances Clarke and Caroline Pendleton were thrilled to present their already highly successful workshop Demystifying CLB Lesson Planning in an online format that reached more than 70 English as an Additional Language and English as a Second Language ( EAL/ESL) professionals across Canada.

“There were many comments and questions flowing through the online chat and the team handled them all providing participants with great ideas,” said Ewa Karczewska, ISSofBC LINC Manager in the Tri-Cities.

Demystifying CLB Lesson Planning developed from a workshop offered to ISSofBC LINC teachers since 2009 to help them understand planning and teaching using the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBs).

Also presenting online on January 23 were Paul Carter, ISSofBC Online Resource Developer, with LINC teachers Donna Mackniak, Olga Kanapelka and Neil Rankin. Their presentation, Perspectives on Blended Learning in the LINC Program, was also very well received through online chats and tweets.

Janis Fair, Online and Technology Coordinator for the ISSofBC LINC program, attended the conference and was very impressed with the presenters.

“They were very well organized and professional, but best of all, the information and tips that our teachers and Paul shared were really relevant and useful for anyone interested in teaching online,” she said.

Lisa Herrera, Lead Instructional coordinator for LINC, said presenting online in REALize! not only provided a national platform for ISSofBC LINC to showcase its strengths in teaching and online and blended programming, but also offered coordinators and teachers a chance to develop hi-tech presentation skills.
