ISSofBC refugee clients visit site–New Welcome House Blog


The first site visit at our new Welcome House construction project Thursday morning included special guests City of Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, SVP of Vancity Linda Morris and Syrian Refugee Majd Agha. In addition 30 past and present refugee clients attended to get a first-hand look at the project scheduled for completion in May, 2016.

 Chris Friesen has been the ISSofBC Director of Settlement Services for over twenty years. He is currently leading the multi-year initiative to design and build a Metro Vancouver Regional Service Centre for Refugees. In spring 2016, this 58,000sf facility will become the first of its kind in the world, bringing together a variety of community and government services and organizations to meet the immediate needs of refugees and immigrants settling in BC.  Learn more about the new Welcome House.

  1. Surrey Libraries also offer resources for refugees to learn essential life skills and books in their mother tongue to teach children about their roots. We provide welcoming spaces where refugees can learn about their local community and Canadian culture, make friends and learn how to adapt and succeed their new home.
