ISSofBC hosts hockey night in Langley

The Langley Rivermen, BCHL Mainland Hockey Division leaders, now have a new group of fans cheering them on thanks to an ISSofBC Volunteer Connections hockey night field trip.

Each month ISSofBC’s Volunteer Connections Program hosts a number of field trips, volunteer opportunities and events for newcomers in the Lower Mainland including learning about and watching Canada’s most famous winter sport—hockey.

“This has become an annual sought-after event where ISSofBC clients, volunteers and their families come together and root for their local junior A team,” said Ana Marie Caday, ISSofBC Volunteer Connections Facilitator in Langley.

The Langley group consisted of newcomers and volunteers from China, Taiwan, Iraq, Myanmar and the USA. For some it was their first experience ever to watch a hockey game.

The Langley Rivermen played against the Coquitlam Express Tuesday evening with a final score of 4-1 for Langley.

“Everyone was excited to see the game in person and proud to be there to see the Rivermen clench the victory,” she said.

The win means the Rivermen need just one more point to secure their first ever division title, a chance they will get Friday night when the Chilliwack Chiefs pay their final visit of the season in Langley.

Ana Marie would like to thank Kylie Kruger and Taylor Henderson of the Langley Rivermen for giving the group a chance to experience the game live and up front.
