Since ISSofBC’s Immigrant Connections Centre first opened its doors one year ago, the number of centre users has doubled from over 300 to close to 700 per month.

Immigrant Connections staff offer newcomers, international students, refugees and other ISSofBC clients easy navigation to employment services support in BC through its resource centre and knowledgeable staff.Brenda Alindogan, Immigrant Client Centre Coordinator, says the increase of users over the centre’s first year is partly due to word of mouth in the immigrant community that staff provide good service.

“We have many satisfied clients,” she said.

In addition, Alindogan said for many newcomers, Immigrant Connections is the “first point of contact”  to immigrant employment services which is why the centre is so essential.

“It matters a lot that we introduce all the program available,” she said.

Currently Immigrant Connections is offered at ISSofBC Terminal five days a week and in New Westminster every Friday.

Immigrant Connection also publishes an online resource page with current listings for employment, language and settlement related workshops and courses.

Staff at Immigrant Connections celebrated the centre’s one-year anniversary Friday, May 10.
