Newcomers had a chance to sit in the mayor’s chair Wednesday and learn the ins and outs of the City of Coquitlam and the community services available during the annual Welcome to Coquitlam event.

The event, held at Coquitlam City Hall from 2:00 to 8:30pm, provided new residents with an opportunity to learn about city programs and services and meet with Mayor Richard Stewart, city council and staff.

As part of the 125th celebration year, council also approved a welcome event expansion to include additional community agencies offering essential services for new residents. As a result, ISSofBC was invited to host an information table and connect with participants along with 15 other organizations.

In addition, the Welcome to Coquitlam event included help from numerous ISSofBC volunteers assisting as door greeters, hosts and interpreters.

ISSofBC LINC students from the Tri-Cities also visited and were excited to learn about programs and services, meet the mayor and council members, and win prizes.

City council and staff were available to all participants providing information on a variety of topics including the city’s finances, recycling and garbage services, parks and recreation activities, and the soon to be opened Evergreen SkyTrain extension.
