Immigrant job seekers attend motivational conference

More than 350 professionals from various industries came together for the annual BC Immigrant Professionals Conference, sponsored by ISSofBC, MOSAIC and ASPECT.

The event, held March 21 at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown, included workshops, group sessions and employer panels geared towards helping immigrant professionals succeed.

“The event brought a radical transformation, a paradigm shift in the way I perceived things. I met and heard so many talented, motivated professional people from diverse backgrounds under a single roof,” said one job seeker participant in a post event evaluation.

The conference’s keynote speaker and founder of Success Road Academy, Iman Aghay, led the day’s events by discussing effective marketing techniques, job search and strategies to unlock vital information about what industry insiders really want from their job seekers.

“The speakers were wisely selected. Iman Aghay’s success story was very forceful,” said another participant.”

The whole day event was capped off with the success stories of five professional panelists who shared their personal experiences overcoming struggles and eventually achieving their career goals in Canada.

Advice from the immigrant panel included actively networking, staying positive and reaching out for support from valuable programs for new immigrants such as Skills Connect for Immigrants and MAPLE 2.0 Mentorship.

“The motivational stories of the speakers and positive attitude of the organizers has left a lasting impression upon me. I too have a dream and will make sure it comes true, without giving up,” said another delegate.
