Deloitte Industry Insight Event

Staff from Deloitte, one of the largest professional service firms, and ISSofBC Volunteer Connections coordinated workshops that featured discussions and insight on immigrants adjusting to new workplace environments in a different country.

Clients had the opportunity to attend workshops on taxation, workplace culture and business development and were able to discuss issues on networking, transferring foreign work experience and gaining relevant Canadian work experience.

“It was very good to have different sections to choose from” said one client attending the Business Development workshop. “The Deloitte team provided useful information.”

Many of the Deloitte staff who volunteered their time to present at the workshops, were often from immigrant backgrounds themselves or worked abroad and experienced their own challenges in working in a different culture.

“I was very impressed with the quality of questions that the participants had prepared” said Mackenzie Lovsin, Staff Accountant at Deloitte. “Many of them had excellent questions and had done research prior to attending our seminar.”

“I enjoyed hearing all of these people’s stories and I was inspired by the passion they conveyed about starting a new life in Canada,” he added.

This event was coordinated by Volunteer Connections and funded by Citizenship and Immigrant Canada and the BC Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training.
